Carrying the Message — Together with Tri-District Intergroup
Together, we ensure the hand of AA is always there.
Whether it’s answering phones, offering a ride, or guiding someone to their first meeting — every act of service through the Central Office helps carry the message to the still-suffering alcoholic. This is where Twelfth Step work becomes real, and where your experience can make a difference.
“Whenever anyone, anywhere reaches out for help, we want the hand of AA to be there. And for that: We are responsible.”
What We Do
The Tri-District Intergroup Central Office serves as a vital connection point for the Greater Pensacola Area AA community. We:
- Answer calls with compassion and care — whether it’s someone seeking help for themselves or a loved one
- Share meeting information across Districts 13, 21, and 22
- Provide guidance and support to those new to AA
- Maintain and distribute AA-approved literature, chips, medallions, and pamphlets to groups and the public
- Help carry the message of hope and recovery in our local fellowship
For many, this office is their very first contact with AA — and we strive to make that first impression welcoming and helpful.
Why Volunteer?
Volunteering at Central Office is a form of 12th Step service. You may be the first voice an alcoholic hears when they reach out for help. You’ll be offering hope, guidance, and a listening ear — and often planting the seed of recovery.
It’s an incredibly rewarding way to give back to the fellowship that gave us so much.
What’s the Commitment?
Don’t worry — commitment doesn’t mean overwhelming. Here’s what a typical service shift looks like:
Night Watch Volunteers (Most Needed)
- One day per month (weekend volunteers cover from Friday 5:00 pm through Monday 9:00 am)
- Weeknight shifts run from 5:00 pm (when the office closes) until 9:00 am the next morning
- Calls typically range from 0 to 3–4 per shift, often in the early evening, and are usually from people looking for a meeting
- Minimum sobriety requirement: 1 year
Office Volunteers
- Usually 2–3 afternoons per month, often on alternate weeks (ex: every other Tuesday)
- Shifts are 3 hours, from 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm
- Responsibilities include answering phones, responding to inquiries, making sales, writing receipts, and closing the office at 5:00 pm
- Minimum sobriety requirement: 1 year
When the office can’t be staffed, we must close — and those reaching out are left without support. We need your help to keep the hand of AA available.
Other Ways to Serve
Not ready for a phone shift? There are many other ways to be of service through Central Office:
- Return calls to alcoholics looking for support
- Provide rides to meetings for newcomers
- Join our speaker list (for inside or outside AA)
- Take AA meetings into treatment facilities or institutions
- Become a Faithful Fiver and support the office with a $5 monthly contribution
